Lightness and gravity: 1,500 kilos of confetti side by side with solid marble bodies. The internationally acclaimed artist Lara Favaretto enters the Glyptotek to present her first-ever solo exhibition in Denmark.
In recent years Italian artist Lara Favaretto has made a strong impression on the international art scene with site-specific installations that combine the monumental with the ephemeral.

We all fall down

The installation We all fall down (2012) consists of a glass-framed room in which four industrial fans slowly blow around a huge quantity of coloured confetti, prompting it into sluggish movement. The vast dunes of confetti change constantly, like a landscape or like the relics of a party. A meditative and visual journey with no beginning and no end; one in which Favaretto invites all viewers to suspend time as they lose themselves in the sight of millions of tiny dancing pieces of paper.
The installation has taken up position amongst the Glyptotek’s magnificent collection of sculptures. The undulating confetti landscape appears side by side with human bodies created out of marble, granite and bronze; bodies whose strong physical presence insistently fill out the spaces they occupy. In contrast to such solidity, Favaretto’s green paper flakes flicker and flit inside their constructed space without any firm sense of direction. The monument has been subverted, short-circuited, and the artistic process of creation is enacted live before the viewer’s eyes – albeit automatically and with a definite humorous twist.
About Lara Favaretto
Lara Favaretto (b. 1973) lives and works in Torino. She is a graduate from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. Her works are featured in many collectionsand museums in Denmark and abroad, and she has already exhibited her work at prestigious institutions such as Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2005), as well as at the 53rd Venice Biennial (2009), MoMA PS1 (2012) and Documenta 13 (2012).
